"This garden really is a special place..."

Put down new roots and become part of a close-knit community in this meditative gardening sim.

Nestled away in the centre of a bustling seafront city, Gold Street Community Garden had long been the heart of the neighbourhood. But in recent years things haven't been quite so rosy.

As a newcomer to the garden, you have the opportunity to reinvigorate and revitalise this community cornerstone. Help out your neighbours, grow a variety of plants, and support those around you to flourish and bloom.

In this demo you can:

  • Explore the whole garden, rendered in cosy 3D graphics
  • Plant and water basic crops in the garden
  • Uncover the early stirrings of your neighbours' stories
  • Chill out and listen to relaxing music

  • W A S D or arrow directional keys: move around
  • E: Interact
  • Number Keys: toggle between your tool and seeds to plant
    • 1 → watering can
    • 2 → tomato
    • 3 → corn
    • 4 → strawberry
    • 5 → cucumber
    • 6 → butternut squash
    • 7 → broccoli
    • 8 → lettuce
    • 9 → yellow bell pepper
    • 0 → green beans
  • P or ESC: pause the game
  • Left mouse click: press buttons

I played a bit, and it looks horribly cute; I was excited, though it turned out very bare bones and confusing. For example, the messages say there is a hole in the fence to be repaired. My thinking goes - am I to repair it? But I cannot even see it. It feels as if the messages were kind of disconnected from the garden? One mentions a cat coming to the garden, but I see no cat, neither am I able to leave food as the note suggested. Only thing I can do is walk around, skip a day, plant or water. I feel it is sadly too bare bones to be enjoyable. It looks so cute I hope it develops, especially as I crave gardening games and there is not a lot of good ones on itch io. Sorry to be a bit harsh

Ah! Also, a lack of settings is a bad thing. For example, being able to regulate the sound etc

Thanks for your comment! We appreciate all your feedback (and for what it's worth - it is not too harsh - it makes sense!).

This project was for a month long game jam and this demo demonstrates what we were able to get done in that time frame! We further developed the game for just over half a year following that game jam, but due to lack of resources, ended up stopping production.

My hope is that some day we will be able to finish it and integrate all your wonderful feedback!

I felt much as Sneksnek did. I also wanted to harvest the crops to donate to the local church, but couldn’t figure out how to harvest them, and I could not find a way to interact with the manure, maybe to grow and donate larger crops or something.

Thanks for the feedback Abby, much appericate. I too wish the game was developed more so you could interact with the awesome features we planned for.
